Choosing the right finish for your replacement kitchen doors

The quickest, easiest and most affordable way to transform the look of your kitchen is by replacing your cabinet doors. With the vast amount of kitchen space that your cabinets take up, a set of new cabinet doors are bound to make an impact to the look and feel of your kitchen.

But should you choose a gloss finish or a matt finish? We’ll help you decide in this article.

Gloss kitchen doors

The gloss finish is popular amongst contemporary kitchen designs and works well with flat surfaces. There are a few variations of the gloss finish, depending on supplier and manufacturer. At Happy Doors we provide our customers with high gloss, Supergloss and Ultragloss options so you can find the perfect gloss finish for your kitchen.

With the ability to reflect light, gloss kitchen doors make your kitchen appear brighter and larger than it actually is. Our Ultragloss white Zurfiz doors do this exceptionally well.

Here are a few reasons why you might decide to opt for a gloss finish:

  • Your kitchen space is quite small, and you want it to appear bigger
  • High gloss doors are easy to clean compared to a lot of other finishes
  • Darker colours don’t appear so dark, meaning you kitchen won’t appear cramped

    Something to consider

Although this isn’t a major drawback, some homeowners avoid choosing a gloss finish because fingerprints, smudges and marks appear more visible on the surface. So, if you’re not a big fan of cleaning, we recommend placing your gloss doors higher up (away from greasy hands).

    Colour options

Gloss finish doors come in a variety of different colours, from white, to cream, to grey to blue and dark black. If you’d like to see these colours in our high gloss, Supergloss or Ultragloss finishes, order up to six free colour samples from Happy Doors today. Prepare to be amazed at the quality of finish.

    Matt kitchen doors

The matt finish is often associated with a traditional or classic kitchen style and usually found on wooden kitchen cabinet doors. That being said, a matt finish can work exceptionally well for contemporary kitchens as well.

If your kitchen space is too bright for your liking, choosing a matt finish door will absorb some of the light to provide a perfect amount of lighting to your kitchen, giving a more muted look.

Here are a few points that might help you decide a matt finish is perfect for you:

    • Easy to clean
    • Unlike the glossy finish, marks, smudges and fingerprints won’t be as visible
    • Helps correct lighting in your kitchen

    Something to consider

Because of the effect that a matt finish has on lighting, you might want to reconsider choosing this finish for small kitchens. However, choosing white as the colour won’t have as big of an effect on the lighting and therefore a smaller kitchen won’t seem as cramped.

    Colour options

At Happy Doors, we stock an extensive range of various matt colours and finishes. From matt to Supermatt and Ultramatt, available on various kitchen doors in white, cream, graphite and many more. Again, take a look at our free colour samples to view our matt colour range.

    Who’s your winner?

There is no clear winner in our eyes, it’s completely down to personal preference. Ultimately, it’s about how you want your kitchen to look and the effect you want to create. Consider the points we made above and make your decision. If you are still unsure, contact us today, we’d be happy to help.
